Macbook Battery Dead 7
Well, finally ran into my first problem with the new Macbook. My battery will only power a laptop for about 10 minutes before shutting down (actually it just turns off). Jeremy Hubert was nice enough to swap batteries with me and sure enough, within a few minutes, his laptop shut down as well. Hoping to get to the Apple Store here in Chicago to get a replacement.

Sorry to hear that. The apple store is just about as far away from the conference as possible. Take the blue line downtown and get a cab. It'll be a several hour turnaround.

Called Apple today and even though I'm out of my 90-day phone support time-frame, the guy was cool enough to go ahead and cross-ship a new battery. Hope this one works out better, hated having to plugin everywhere at RailsConf.

well...finally (and hoping your problem is solved) I ran into this page. My nem macbook has a similar problem. The battery runs fine until I put it to sleep or Shut the mac Down. When turning my mac back on again the battery is totally drained. it actually happened once when i was using without the power adaptor (it went on sleep mode and wouldt wake until i put the powercord back in. Apple is sending me a new battery hopfully ending this agony. 15th august moving to the philippines for 2 years. it'll better work. Good luck, Friso Westenbroek

That battery experience is common. Mine was swollen when it wouldn't hold charge any longer... such is life :L

Similar problem to Westenbroek, with the Macbook battery draining to 0% whenever I shut it down below 35%. My experience with AppleCare was less helpful - they would not acknowledge a battery problem or provide a replacement, but insisted that I take the Macbook to an Apple Store. There, fortunately, a Genius Bar tech immediately provided a new battery. My recent experience with AppleCare techs (for this and for a problem Airport Extreme) has been excellent for diagnostic skills but poor for replacing obvious equipment problems.

my battery just stopped being recognized this evening. just a black x on the battery indicator on the menu bar. this is a 1/11/06 vintage black macbook. kind of sad that its battery is already wasted.

so I went to a nearby Apple Store yesterday (Saturday) AM and ended up being the first to see a Genius. He tried out one of their batteries, booted into single user mode, checked inventory and gave me a new battery. Took all of ten minutes. I was pleasantly surprised -- my invoice was $0.
